Today’s Wordle #626 Hint, Clues and Answer for Tuesday, March 7th

It’s Wordle time folks! The word puzzle game that just won’t quit remains one of my favorite daily distractions, especially since I turned it into a competitive challenge against The New York Times’ Wordle Bot (and then a challenge for you, dearest Wordlers, against me…see below) .

I suppose it’s one distraction among many. My hobbies are:

  • play video games like Call of Duty, Hogwarts Legacy, Elden Ring and now Where Long Dynasty.
  • Watching shows like Slow Horses, Better Call Saul, The Legend of Vox Machina And White lotus.
  • read books like The Blacktongue thief, The blade itself, the Jack Reacher novels and Lord of the Rings.
  • Going to the gym, doing yoga, hiking and lately shoveling boatloads of snow!

What are your non-Wordle hobbies? Do you have any games or puzzles that you can recommend? If yes, please let me know Twitter or Facebook.

How to solve today’s Wordle

The hint: This popular Netflix character with a roommate named Todd, a rival named Mr. Peanutbutter, and an agent named Carolyn is one of them.

The hint: There are more consonants than vowels in this word.

The answer (spoilers):

Today is a prime example of man versus machine in favor of man. This man in particular, and for a reason I’ll get to in a moment.

my opening guess, cairn, is one Wordle Bot uses a lot at number 2 and I figured why not try it as an opener? Unfortunately I was left with 263 possible solutions.

Luckily, my next guess was fire. roast meat crashed this 263, leaving only two options: Horse And worse. And here even a forgetful person like me – and I am extremely forgetful! – an advantage over Wordle Bot.

You see, the bot went along worse. As you can see in the image above, it admits that it would have guessed this instead, and in fact today it did so by guessing slate / mourn / worse / horse. I, on the other hand, remembered that about a week ago for Wordle #618 was the answer to the Wordle worse. I remember because it was so new and my hint –not better-so very, very easy. With that knowledge in hand, I knew the answer had to be Horse.

That means I get 1 point for guessing three points and 1 point for defeating the bot for a total of 2 points. Bwahahaha! I am the king of the world!

I asked ChatGPT to enlighten us on the etymology of “horse” and this is what the bot told me:

The word “horse” comes from the Old English word “hors” which dates back to the 8th century. It is believed to be derived from the Proto-Germanic word “hursaz” meaning “a stallion” or “a male horse”. The word is also related to the Old Norse word “hross”, the Dutch word “paard” and the German word “Pferd”, all meaning “horse”.

The word “horse” has been used for centuries to refer to the domesticated mammal of the equine family, which includes horses, zebras, and donkeys. The horse has played an important role in human history, particularly in transportation, agriculture and warfare.

A horse is of course a horse. A horse is of course a horse.

Play world against me!

I was playing a cutthroat PvP Wordle game against my nemesis, Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And of course your helpful Wordle guide).

Here are the rules:

  • 1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
  • 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
  • 3 points to get it in 1 installment.
  • 1 point for hitting Erik
  • 0 points for getting it in 4 installments.
  • -1 point for getting it in 5 installments.
  • -2 points for making it in 6 attempts.
  • -3 points to lose.
  • -1 point for losing to Erik

Your best play would be a hole-in-1 (3 points) and beating me (1 point) for a total of 4. Worst of all would be not guessing the correct answer (-3 points) and losing to me (-1 ) point for a total of -4. However, these are outlier values. Usually my worst score is -2 and my best score is +2.

Have a nice day, my dear wordlers!
