A team of former Respawn developers is officially founding its own studio and is currently working on a new shooter IP.
A group of former respawn Developers announced that they have officially launched a new game studio under the Wildlight Entertainment name. In recent years, a number of studios have sprung out of large gaming companies such as; Forza Horizon Developer Maverick Games. Wildlight seems to be the newest entry on this list. While the new studio is yet to reveal any further details about the future, the former Respawn developers have hinted that they are working on a shooter game.
Shooters have often been a popular category in the gaming world for decades, and that popularity has only seemed to have increased in part thanks to live service franchises Counter Strike Global Offensive, call of DutyAnd Apex Legends, among other. By the way, Apex Legends recently hit a new all-time player count, a sign that the genre continues to generate a lot of excitement among gamers. It remains to be seen what to expect from the former Respawn team, but it might not be far off the guess that the studio is looking to bring a similarly popular title to life.
The official studio was released today by the newly formed team at Wildlight Entertainment on social media, although the studio has reportedly been in the works since last year. Described as a “Remote First, Hybrid Friendly” company, Wildlight’s team consists primarily of developers of IPs such as call of Duty, titanium fallAnd Apex Legends. Alongside the creators, Dusty Welch, who previously held the roles of Chief Operating Officer and General Manager for Respawn, is the co-founder of the studio’s CEO Apex Legends. So far, Wildlight hasn’t revealed any details about its upcoming work, except for a new FPS title that’s currently in development. While it may be a while before the studio shares more information, it’s likely that the new IP will take the live service route given the team’s expertise and the popularity of the room.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first studio to emerge from Respawn Entertainment. Back in 2020, formerly titanium fall Developers formed Gravity Well Studio led by Drew McCoy and Jon Shiring who has experience call of Duty And Apex Legends. However, the studio has yet to make any announcements about its gaming project.
Respawn itself has endured a rocky few months. It recently canceled its Apex Legends Mobile game along with its unannounced Titanfall Legends Project rumored to include both Legends and Titans from the franchise. Despite this, fans continue to dive in Apex Legends in large numbers, especially after Respawn announced its new season. Now that another studio is about to add a new shooter to the mix in the form of Wildlight, FPS fans could have an interesting few years ahead.
