The 2023 World Baseball Classic is in full swing, with the knockout round scheduled to begin on Wednesday. Team USA can secure their place in the quarter-finals with a win over Colombia on Wednesday in Phoenix, while Puerto Rico against the Dominican Republic and Canada against Mexico are also high-profile affairs. The semi-quarterfinal field is set with Japan, Australia, Cuba and Italy. Cuba and Australia face off in the first quarterfinals in Tokyo.
This version of the WBC was originally scheduled to be played in 2021 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The action started on Wednesday, March 8 (the 2023 WBC Taiwan opener’s technically first pitch was on March 7 at 11:00pm ET) and there will be a total of 47 games. The championship game is scheduled for Tuesday, March 21 in Miami.
Many MLB stars are attending the event including Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, Julio RodrÃguez, Francisco Lindor, Mike Trout and Trea Turner.
